Series: The Uglies

I have a vague sense that I have stepped into "young adult romance" territory. This seemed (seemed? it is) another one of those 4-book dystopian sagas about teenagers living in a world with crazy rules purportedly put in place after a cataclysmic event took out normal society. In this case - it's the fact that everyone is genetically modified to be as evolutionarilly beautiful as possible. That is, except for the specials who aggressively manage the outliers and the outliers themselves who would rather live on their own.

At least the message that "everyone has their own beauty", and not just the genetically engineered stuff is a nice message...
