Series: Grand Tour of the Universe

As mentioned in the previous review, you'd never know this was written a decade before it's prequel, Powersat.  Oh, the characters were a little different mannered, but that could partly be explained by the insane amounts of wealth the main character gains in the intervening years.

Anyway, the story was decent. There were some things a little to cliche, but it was a fun little romp, if a little heavy-handed on the greenhouse effect and global warming theories.

It's also interesting to read about New Orleans dealing with (er, ignoring) the threat of catastrophe in a book written years before Hurricane Katrina devastated the city.
