Returning to my Larry Niven reading timeline now... I got my first Kindle library loan for a later book in the series and figured I'd try to quickly read the intermediate stories, so I could read the library book before it expired (and without ripping off the DRM).

It's even more of an 'origin' story than Protector (which I suppose I should've read later). I suppose it's not so much the origin of humanity, but the origin of the Slavers.

In typical Niven fashion, though, some of the most pivotal plot points are left to be interpreted/discovered by the reader. I still don't quite understand how Greenberg escaped and 'won' at the end... Maybe if I re-read the last few pages I'll get it. Maybe I'm just an idiot. That could be true, too...
